Summaries
Add a SummaryTorment picks up only a couple of days later as Luce makes her way to Shoreline, a school in northern California for unusually gifted students. Her classmates are Nephalim--children who are part human, part fallen angel and Luce will board and study with them at this safe haven until Daniel returns for her. At the school, Luce is more comfortable and less of an outsider than she ever was at Sword and Cross, but it's what she doesn't know that still haunts her. Eventually, she learns the Shadows that plague her are windows to events from her lives, both current and past. She intends to manipulate them and illuminate her relationship with Daniel. The problem? The Shadows only reveal a glimpse. Sometimes partial understanding is more misleading than none at all. Ultimately, viewing her past confuses Luce. And, adding to her sense of bewilderment is Luce's new friend Miles, a warm, funny, open guy who is so different than Daniel. I really hadn't enjoyed the first book but decided to give the second book a chance, I am so glad I did..torment pulls you deeper into the unfolding story and leave you wanting to read the next! The eighteen-day countdown as the end of the truce nears creates a fast-paced read. Following an exciting climax, author Lauren Kate leaves the reader with another cliffhanger ending and a lot of unanswered questions. so now I'm waiting for the next book, Passion, due to hit shelves in the summer of 2011.

Comment
Add a CommentThere is a huge drop-off in quality from Fallen. Like Fallen, this is essentially a Twilight knock-off with angels instead of sparkly vampires (complete with a hot supernatural hero and a damsel who can't do anything herself). Like Twilight, the male hero leaves the female damsel alone for her own "protection" and is essentially reduced to a cameo. Like Twilight, the damsel becomes too stupid to live, alternating between obeying her boyfriend's cryptic commands and disobeying them, but never just making him have an actual conversation - because an actual conversation that would have reduced the page count from 400 to 54. There are much, much better supernatural/paranormal novels out there. Read Lord of the Dead or anything by Anne Rice or the Darkangel Trilogy or even her first novel Fallen. Even Need is far superior to this.
I has a really hard time finishing this one but I am glad i read it. Finished Passion in 2 days and half way through Torment :) good books!!!
I was annoyed but I had to finish all 4 books
Disappointment.
i love this book , love the story line
A lot of stuff is repeated over and over again, it gets annoying. This book also makes you kinda sad, cause the main character is to absorbed in love, that when Luce and Daniel do get together and everything is peaceful you wonder how long they'll last. You realize that their love is going to be boring without all this conflicts keeping them away.
This one was quite disappointing. I enjoyed the first book, but this one had too much soppiness and was going into too much detail over things that had happened in the last book. Only got about 5 chapters through and gave up. It kinda reminded me of Twilight =/
Well.. I certainly enjoyed the first book MUCH more than this one! I juat couldnt get into it and it was such a let down as the first book was so good!!!
Second book in the Fallen series. Torment seems an apt name. I did enjoy it, though, and will finish the series.
i really enjoyed this book!
