This is a 2000 American docudrama directed by Roger Donaldson.
The film dramatizes the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, seen from the perspective of the US political leadership.
Kevin Costner stars as political consultant Kenneth P. O'Donnell.
While the movie carries the same name as the book "Thirteen Days" by former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, it is in fact based on a different book "The Kennedy Tapes: Inside the White House During the Cuban Missile Crisis" by Ernest May and Philip Zelikow.
Based on Kennedy's book, the first docudrama "The Missiles of October" was made in 1974.
This second docudrama contains some newly declassified information not available to the earlier production.
If you take a close look at the film, you might pinpoint a dark figure who must've been involved in the JFK assassination.
Indeed, some brass at the Pentagon actually wanted to attack Cuba, and JFK knew it.
You'll see it by yourself.

A very well done dramatization of the Cuban Missile Crisis, from the point of view of the interior of the White House, with a senior aide to the President (played by Kevin Costner) as the touchstone character. The story drives up the tension like a slow burner as the administration faces what might be the final crisis and a nuclear war, and the difficult choices between diplomacy and military action. The director Roger Donaldson does outstanding work with this film as he maintains suspense even though the audience knows what happened, and the actors are well cast in their roles, including many Hollywood character actors.

This story illustrates how difficult and delicate the presidency is. Dealing with other nations, especially hostile ones is a chess game. It's too easy to say "They did this? Then we'll do THAT." No. Because in reality what happens is they do this and then you do that, then they do another thing, which you have to counter and then they double down and then you triple down and then they do X. That thing which you cannot allow. And now you're in an intractable position. You're committed. And they're committed. And now it may mean war. And you'll wish you'd been a lot more flexible when this whole nightmare first happened.

well done although it would have been nice to have used more original footage

"It shall be the policy of this Nation, that any missile launched from that embattled island, against any country in the northern hemisphere, will be considered an attack, on the United States by the Soviet Union and will require a full retaliatory response."
