Sharpe’s Havoc
If you’ve read any of the Sharpe novels, you already know what to expect: outstanding action, bravery, heroism, double-dealing espionage, deceit, and a large dose of history.
This novel is set in Portugal during the Iberian campaign of the Napoleonic War. A small British army, with the help of Portuguese military, is successful in its campaign to oust the French armies from their homeland.
Sharpe’s detachment of Redcoats is separated from the rest of their army and finds itself under the command of a British nobleman who claims to be a negotiator from the British foreign office. This same non-officer, who has designs on local trade that will make him rich, orders Sharpe’s contingent into a near-fatal engagement with the French.
As always, the action is hot and furious. The heroes are larger than life. Good triumphs over evil. Suspense abounds.
As always, when it comes to a Cornwell Sharpe novel: read this book.
