Excellent for an understanding of the kind of person Waugh was and the mind set of the people of his social class. His command of language at an early age is impressive. His diaries show what an igocentric gerk he was. Waugh was more interested in the furnishings of people's homes and the quality and quantity of the wine he drank, apparently every evening, than he was of the people he encountered But his writing is wonderful.
