this the book the famous movie made from. famous movie starred John cassavettes and mia farrow and ruth Gordon. filmed at the famous Dakota Apartments, where, later, famous John Lennon, formerly of the famous fab four, the Beatles, was assassinated.....-howya doin'? me? oh, famously, famously. of course, in the book, one doesn't have the gothic eeriness of the Dakota apartment building, which the Onos moved into in the early 70s, taking over actor Robert Ryan's apartment, and since, greatly expanding Ono's ownership within. Ane, in this book, one doesn't have the great Elisha Cook playing the landlord, who shows the young couple around the apartment they eventually decide to let. Nor does this book have the great Ruth Gordon playing a creepy cat lady (sans cats). I forbear from mentioning details of the plot. The film was a sensation when released. The book is quite impactful in its own way. It's ok to read the book after you've seen the film. It can be quite useful to do so.
One of my favs.
While this was a good book, I have to agree with an earlier reviewer who said that the movie is better than the book.
It just seems that more was needed to make this book really stellar.
Good read, dumb ending.
was ok for that time when books about witchcraft were not put into real detail as they are today. but a good book for reading on the train or subway.
Note to self: don't make any deals with the devil. Seriously though, this is a classic. One of those books that helped pave the way for this genre. I remember when I was young watching the movie and being disappointed that you didn't see more of the baby (guess I was some sort of warped, curious sort of child). The book definitely met all expectations!
The movie was better than the book. The book was way too short and the story line had a good working base, but ended up going all over the place. :( Read this last year.
This book is great and the movie is great also. It is most definitely part of my collection and is one of my favorites.
Scared me silly when I read this as a youngster.
