Newly widowed Lydia Sellers, longing to put the memories of a painful marriage behind her, determines to travel to Alaska to join her aunt. Lydia's arrival in Sitka, however, brings things she didn't expect: the acquaintance of Kjell Bjorklund, the handsome owner of the sawmill; and the discovery that she is pregnant with her dead husband's child. What will this mean for her budding relationship with Kjell? And what lengths will her stepchildren go to reclaim their father's fortune? Lydia soon finds her life--and that of her child's--on the line.

Add a CommentThis was the first book on the Song of Alaska series, and it was a good book to start with. It has the perfect amount of romance, suspense, and adventure wrapped up in one. I couldn't wait to start the second book:)
Other than what I think was an impossible way to go through labour, I really enjoyed the book and thought that the book flowed really well. While I haven't had amnesia, I have heard of when amnesia has completely changed a person's personality and it probably also can rob a person of their memories to the point where they have to ask people about things about their likes and dislikes. It was a nice quick read when in the middle of some very dense books.
lots of dramatic action, evil characters, prevailing goodnes, and triumph. Appeals to a pioneer/love story/history reader who desires a slight change in reading material but still wants to enjoy the wholeness of that kind of story. Set in an interesting location.
