Agent Pendergast faces his most personal case: the murder of his wife Helen. It had appeared to be a hunting accident while they were in Africa, but now evidence suggests otherwise. His search for clues takes him back into Helen's past and her strange obsession with a long-lost painting by John James Audubon.

a little bit slow in places but still a good read...a bit more believable than some of his later Pendergast books. Eager to find the follow up book that tells what happens to the obvious loose end.

Getting a bit formulaic as the series goes along ...

It was good but I don't think it is one of their best works. Somehow the book seemed to lose momentum about 2/3's of the way in and never regained it back, ending with a very lacklustre and unsatisfying conclusion

The best Pendergast novel in quite a while.

read fever dream first and then read cold vengeance second and then wait till december to read the last book in the trilligy

I like novels with endings, not cliff-hangers with the authors hoping to sell another book. Very disappointing.

A wonderful new installment to the Pendergast series. Infinitely better than "Wheel of Darkness" as well. Can't wait for the next one! :)

This was a wickedly great read! Fast pace with lots of twists and turns. I could not put it down. I can hardly wait for the next Pendergast novel!
