This book took me by surprise. I expected scary or graphic ghost stories straight up, but the writer includes the history and factual details around the stories. I'd categorize it as historical non-fiction. The jacket of the book fools the reader into thinking that it's scarier than it is. It definitely made me sleep with the light on. It's that spooky, so it won't disappoint. But you have to be interested in the American history lessons he gives about the Civil War, etc. that are the origins of the tales he tells. This is one book in a series, and I liked it so much that I'll read more of the author's books.
