I don’t normally enjoy non-fiction books and it takes me months to finish them - I read this book in four days. It was easy to read with an enjoyable and smooth narrative style. I learned about the related events around those I already knew and I learned about new people and events I’d not heard of before. It not only focused on the 19th century but had several chapters covering the 20th century that were fascinating too. I stayed up late at night to finish the book - something I’ve never done with a history book before.
