Rory might be ready to star in her own fairy tale, but there's more danger than happily-ever-after in this third book in the Ever After series, which Kirkus Reviews calls a "fast-paced combination of middle school realism and fairy-tale fantasy."

Life at Ever After School has become familiar for Rory. She's been on two quests, she's a great sword fighter, and she has terrific friends. But familiar is no fairy tale, and Rory is still anxiously awaiting the chance to star in her own.

But as her connection to the Snow Queen continues to grow, Rory realizes her starring role might be well underway. When the Snow Queen sends the Pied Piper to kidnap several children, including the sibling of a fellow EAS-er, the teachers think the rescue mission is too dangerous and won't send any kids. But Rory, Chase, and Lena are determined to help, and it's not long before they find themselves in more trouble than they can handle. Then again, it wouldn't be Ever After School if things worked out according to plan...

Rory has been going to a magical after- school program for a while now, waiting to star in her own epic adventure, referred to as a Tale. Thorough instead of starring in one, she and her best friends, Chase and Lena, accompany fellow character Mariam on her Tale to save her brother when he and an abundance of other children are captured by the evil Snow Queen. The previous two books have been a blast to delve into, and this book was no different. I enjoyed every moment of the adventure, with plenty of action and magic bursting out of every chapter. The characters were developed very well, and I thoroughly enjoyed the dash of romance that was present between Rory and Chase. It wasn’t overdone, and I enjoyed that fact that it wasn’t introduced right at the beginning of the series, which made it even better, because it gives their relationship a deeper layer so it didn’t come off shallow. The concept of the story was also masterfully set up, because magic wasn’t used as the main excuse for every problem. It certainly was used in most situations, but there was always a well thought out plan behind it, and not just “because it’s magic.” I loved every moment of the book, and I can’t wait to read the last one of this series. 4.5/5
