Four suicidal strangers find support in the last place they ever expected to in this emotionally charged comedy-drama based on the novel by Nick Hornby. It's New Year's Eve in London, and disgraced television personality Martin (Pierce Brosnan) is about to take a flying leap off of Topper's Tower when he's interrupted by Maureen (Toni Collette), a lonely single mother who's reached the end of her rope. Meanwhile, as the pair realize their suicide plans have overlapped, onto the rooftop dashes Jess (Imogen Poots), a rebellious teen with nothing left to live for. Just when it seems this despairing group can't possibly get any bigger, rocker-turned-pizza delivery driver J.J. (Aaron Paul) shows up with a fresh pie and a death wish. Rather than taking the plunge together, the unlikely foursome decide to put their plans off until Valentine's Day -- sticking together and supporting one another in the interim. Later, as their friendship deepens, their unusual pact stirs a media firestorm.

A bit of a quirky movie. A one-time watch.

While suicide isn't exactly the stuff of laughter and entertainment, I adored the book (listened to it as an audio book with brilliant readers) and laughed and felt for all the characters. I was so looking forward to the movie but this is such a pathetic let-down. It doesn't hold a candle to the book source, which is a shame since many people won't even bother reading the book if they see the film first.

This turned out to be a sleeper. Very boring, the “British” humour was nothing great and the story overall was pretty lame. If you have trouble sleeping watch this movie.

Like so many movies that I've seen of books I've read this is an average rendition of the book of the same name. The book I thoroughly enjoyed and did not think it was possible to laugh so much about suicide. Having said that the topic was also handled sensitively in the book. My disappointment with the movie was it didn't grab me or make me laugh like the book did. It was mildly amusing and missed so much of the depth and insight contained in the novel.

Unique story and quirky enough to maintain an interest.

I actually respectfully disagree with jponzenel. I really liked this movie. From the very beginning i found the characters likable. I wanted to see inside their lives and really get to know them. I think the film got a bad rap, and that's a shame. Watch it with good friends and i think you will enjoy it.

Extremely boring movie. I was hoping that I would like it more, but it really isn't very good in any way that I could see.
