this is a very interesting documentary but be warned, for parents of small kids, that there is a rather graphic scene of a young penguin being attacked by mature penguins. it is quite graphic, was not stopped by the production team and the ensuing result (the penguin dies and its family returns to mourn it...) could come as quite a shock to kids, it did to me.

A curious sort of documentary set in a unique place. A post office established by the British and operating during the Antarctic summer happens to also be the prime stomping grounds of a great many Gentoo penguins. The scenery in the area is stunning, and the lives of penguins are examined. The human side of things, both the tourists who come for a few hours on shore and the staff who speak at length about the experience of living there for a few months, are quite a contrast to the black and white characters waddling around on the rocks all over the place.
