This book is written by one of my favorite author named Laura Ingalls Wilder. The main character is a boy named Almanzo. Almanzo is the youngest out of his family. He has one older brother named Royal and two older sisters named Eliza Jane and Alice. This book describes Almanzo's childhood when he turned nine years old. In details, the book tells us the chores he does at his family's farm in the town of Malone. But the author focuses on the adventures that Almanzo went through while doing his chores. Some chores that Almanzo does that were described in the book were planting and tending the crops, training young oxen, going to school, and many more.
While Laura Ingalls grows up in a little house on the western prairie, Almanzo Wilder is living on a big farm is New York State, where he and his brother and sisters work at their chores from dawn to dinner most days-no matter what the weather. There is still time for fun, though, especially with the horses, which Almanzo loves more than anything.

Add a CommentGreat book that tells of life on the farm over a hundred years ago. Wonderful descriptions of raising crops, cutting your own ice, riding long sleds through the snowy forest, and many other things.
A very good book for boys. You begin to appreciate the hard work, determination, and pluck of the farmers. The book really uncovers all the work, fun, and excitement of living in the late 1800s as a Farmer Boy. Through winter and summer there's so much to do! The detail and the excitement make this book one of my favourites!
