Thirty-one-year-old Cornelia Brown adores classic romantic films. Anything starring Jimmy Stewart or Cary Grant will do nicely, especially The Philadelphia Story. Unapologetically idealistic about love, Cornelia appears to catch the break of a lifetime when the dashing Martin Grace, her own personal Cary Grant, comes strolling into her life. But Cornelia's life truly changes one snowy day when she looks up to find troubled 11-year-old Clare Hobbes standing before her.

Set aside the fact that no 11-year-old I've ever encountered would remotely be self-actualized enough to have the thoughts or conversations attributed to the youngest character, Clare, in this novel. Or that almost no one so consistently could pull off the snappy dialogue attributed to most of the book's other characters. If you can do that -- and I could, actually -- it will be easy to engage in this heartwarming/heart-wrenching story. It's worth overlooking the book's flaws, including some implausibility in the story line, to immerse yourself in the beautiful writing and to root for the key characters. You could also come away from this book with a pretty strong list of must-see old movies!

it was okay...interesting story, but once again, her writing style irritated me.

Terrible book.
I like light easy reading but this was dull, predictable and a waste of time.

Overall this was an ok book. I had read her second book first "Belong to Me" so this book was easy to predict for me. If you are looking for something light this is the book. Otherwise, I found myself skimming through pages to get to the end. Not a bad story line but not compelling enough for me to keep wanting to read.
