"One Perfect Lie is an emotional thriller and a suburban crime story that will keep you guessing until you turn the very last page. On the surface, it tells the tale of the struggling single mother of a high-school pitcher, a shy kid so athletically talented that he's being recruited for a full-ride scholarship to a Division I college, with a future in major-league baseball. But the mother fears that she's losing her grip on her son because he's being lured down a darker path by one of his teammates, a secretly disturbed young man from an affluent family, whose excellent grades and fun-loving manner conceal his violent criminal plans. Add a handsome stranger who comes to town and infiltrates the high school, posing as a teacher but with a hidden agenda all his own. The mix becomes combustible when a beloved faculty member turns up dead as a suicide, in circumstances equally consistent with murder. Only then is the true identity of the fake teacher revealed, and the single mother finds herself engaged in a battle for the future, the soul, and the very life of her only son. One Perfect Lie is a riveting and suspenseful family drama, and by the time you close the book, you will realize that nothing was as it seemed at the beginning"--

One of the worst books I have ever read. Totally far fetched plots and poorly written with excessive descriptions.

Really enjoyed book...fairly predictable ending, but didn't know so until end....

Part 1 was exciting and then I hit Part 2 and was REALLY????? I decided to plow through even though I was disappointed. While it didn't keep me glued to the story or on the edge of my seat, it did keep me turning the pages.

The story races along at breakneck speed, making you want to turn the pages faster to find out what happens.
Despite some obvious gaping holes in the plot, it was a very good read!

The book began well but but the author did no stay true to the theme. After the plot was revealed, the story went downhill and was never actually resolved.
The dialogue was forced and didn't add anything to the story.

Rented this because I've thoroughly enjoyed Scottoline's books. It began and continued to be an engrossing story. The plot and characters came alive and I found it to be a real page-turner! Without wanting to give anything away, I found the conclusion to be somewhat contrived. Nevertheless, I did like the book.

At first, it was enjoyable reading about Chris turning up at a secondary school to teach and to coach, and reading about 3 varying families whose sons were in Chris's class, but then I wondered where is the plot? Half way through the book, the author informs the reader about the plot she has in mind and what Chris is really up to at the school. I thought the basis of the plot was ridiculous, but I was by then hooked into finding out what was going to happen to the teens. The ending was all action, even though it was highly imaginative - nothing that could really happen.

One of the worst books I've ever read, halfway through the main character goes through an one eighty degree change in character. It is like a new author took over, writing not good enough to carry this off.

The good news first, this book drew me in then threw a plot twist at me and then kept me on the edge of my seat. It is difficult to combine a thriller and a family social drama in one book and Scottoline did it well. The main plot points were believable while still giving the reader a hit of adrenaline

Now for the bad news and the reason I took off a star: I have read all of Lisa Scottoline's books, but found myself a bit frustrated with some sloppy editing in this one. There is the name switch of "Justin" instead of "Jordan" on the bookjacket, crickets chirping in April (they don't get going until fall in Missouri and we are further south), bugs hitting the windshield while Chris is driving at night (again more like a summer than spring detail) and I noticed some sentences that were missing a word or had incorrect grammar.

I love this author and her books! This one was particularly interesting in that it provided twists and turns that were completely unexpected. Not to give away too much of the plot, but the main character was less than lovable until further on into the story. Totally recommend the book!
