I don't get the hate. Dylan's voice has always been rough around the edges. That's certainly the case here, but he sounds like he's having a ball. It's fun. It's cheery. If you've enjoyed Dylan's recent albums (particularly the unambitious but enjoyable trilogy of American standards "Shadows in the Night," "Fallen Angels," and "Triplicate,"), you'll probably like this one too. Unless you're a Grinch.
With a voice that sounds like he just gargled gravel and swallowed raw eggs, Dylan offers up his renditions of yule tide favorites backed by a competent band. Good as an Xmas comedy album
I'm a Dylan fan ... and this ranks among his worst. He rasps and gasps his way -- tunelessly -- through a batch of overly familiar carols, offering nothing new or interesting to his interpretations other than sheer audacity. He probably knocked this album out in a single afternoon. Only "Must Be Santa" deserves a second listen, and even that fares better in the video.
May 4, 2016.....Ha!.....well.....I do love Bob Dylan, but I think I'll just have to listen to this one with my headphones on, while wrapping presents. I don't think my family would appreciate me subjecting them to this album. Little Drummer Boy was the best, but as for the others, I think I'll stick to Anne Murray and K.D. Lang. Raspy and Christmas songs just don't seem to go together!
It's number 21 on Rolling Stones "The 25 Greatest Christmas Albums of All Time".
"Christmas in the Heart is a great title for this utterly unexpected, weirdly inspired album – because with Dylan on the mic, it certainly isn't Christmas in the voice. "
