Shallow Hallmark remake and it shows in its cutesyness despite zero chemistry between the two leads. The movie does start off with a bang as the female lead, a teacher at a wealthy white school, turns down a bribe from an entitled dad confident his himbo, lacrosse-playing son will get a passing grade. She collides with the male lead during various dog competitions; their verbal jousting is just that, and never catches fire. Please see the Kiera Knightley/Matthew Macfadyen version of "Pride and Prejudice" for an infinitely truer adaptation of this famous book.

If you're going to remake a Jane Austen classic, you should at least be able to spell her name. (Back cover calls her "Jane Austin." How dare!)

As Austen remakes go, this one obviously had very little effort - and even less knowledge of the actual book Pride and Prejudice - put into it. The dialogue is boring and cliche, far from Austen's fabled sly wit. The plot has little tension beyond cattiness and social climbing. The dog-show setting serves little purpose beyond the excuse to put cute dogs on screen to distract from how one-dimensional the characters are.

If you want a good modern Pride and Prejudice retelling, please do yourself a favor and Google "Lizzie Bennet Diaries." (Seriously. Do it. You will not regret it.) Skip this one. It'll just make you sad, if you care about Austen at all.
