Grant Snider's illustrations will motivate you to explore these questions, inspire you to come up with your own answers and, like all Gordian knots, prompt even more questions. Whether you are a professional artist or designer, a student pursuing a creative career, a person of faith, someone who likes walks on the beach, or a dreamer who sits on the front porch contemplating life, this collection of one- and two-page comics will provide insight into the joys and frustrations of creativity, inspiration, and process-no matter your age or creative background.

If you are an artist, writer, visionary of any kind, you MUST enjoy this book. Delightful, poignant, deep, silly, thoroughly enjoyable.

As an artist myself I really connected with this book. The author think's outside the box and shows us that we're not alone in our creative struggles. Perfect for anyone who feels stuck.

I happened upon Grant Snider's work via Instagram's Explore algorithm that suggests accounts you may enjoy. This is one of the few times that Instagram was on the money. Mr. Snider is an orthodontist, as well as, artist and family man that works out of Wichita, Kansas! (His online comics can be found at The line art found inside The Shape of Ideas is simplistic, with bold color choices, transmitting messages, or ideas, that will make the reader sit and ponder. Ideas ranging from the creative process and its blocks to ones of mindfulness. If you are searching for a book to help slow down and look at your world with a mindful perspective through the lens of an artist, then this book is for you!

Loved this; a delightful, thoughtful, and beautifully illustrated series of one page ponderings on the nature of the creative process. A great book to pick up when looking for a short, creative lift. I'm planning to pick up my own copy, since I think this book would be best enjoyed in short bursts rather than reading through in one go. Many thanks to the thoughtful librarian who suggested this one!

Cute drawings, but no characters, stories or dialogue.

An amusing and thoughtful collection of comic strips about the very broad concept of ideas. Snider gets quite creative visually in order to explore the topic. He is also quite adept at looking at it from many different angles. The book is helpfully split up into a number of sections which break apart the concept. These are: Inspiration, Perspiration, Improvisation, Aspiration, Contemplation, Exploration, Daily Frustration, Imitation, Desperation, and Pure Elation. The headings alone give you a clear idea of what to expect. Throughout, Snider never says that any one way is the correct way to spark ideas and be creative, rather he shows that there are an infinite amount of ways. However, people usually face many of the same frustrations and pitfalls, joys and successes in the process. The Shape of Ideas is just one of those books to just pick up on a daily basis for a bit of inspiration, comfort, and humour. For more, you can check out Snider's comics at
