This book is a very plain read. The author seems to lack innovation in writing and technique. I found many quotes taken from other movies/books. This is a sign that this author lacks creativity and needs inspiration. I found that this book has too much run-on for an action orientated book. I also found the shifts in perspective to be quite confusing as the lack of correlation between the storylines near the beginning. I think this book was the result of an inspiration of another story. On the other hand, when the storylines merged, the confusion cleared and the actions of the characters started making sense, I was able to follow and it was decently entertaining.

I rated this book a 7/10 because of it's lack of originality and the authors inability to take advantage of his multiple POV approach to this series. I think that this author is not good at writing books from multiple perspectives and so for the majority of the book, I was confused on the time line and the parallel events. Overall, I would say that this book is an okay read but it is quite difficult to understand.

I accidentally jumped ahead to book two, but no matter it was a stand-alone good read. At times I was wondering whether I had accidentally picked up a teen sci-fi; however, that may just be because I recently was on a meatier read with Cryptonomicon.

Vengeful was syrupy and fun. I enjoyed the constantly jumping time frames as we got to know the characters all at different times and momentum. The story was enthralling and kept me turning the pages.

I waited years for this - for more brilliant, ruthless, charming Victor - and Vengeful did not disappoint.
