Truly a tale of the three sisters. Is it Billy’s turn next?

I think part of the appeal of this series for me is listening to it on audiobook. The narrator does a great job differentiating between characters, both main and side. I think the world-building is just right, with not too much of an info dump but not too little information either. I am intrigued to see where the series goes and how it winds up.

I am not a massive fan of third books that authors write, simply for the sake of writing and profit. After the somewhat disgruntling ending in the second book, I felt as if there were too many plot holes for it to be enjoying anymore. I read this book to get that final, conclusion and satisfaction of knowing I was done with the series. Little did I know, pages later I would still be disappointed. Especially towards the end, I got confused with the plot and segments weren't well written. Overall, there is a lot of room for improvement. @Siri of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

Katharine is Queen Crowned but many are unhappy about a fourth consecutive poisoner queen. Arsinoe and Mirabella are back on the mainland with Billy, but Billy's family isn't thrilled. Now Arsinoe begins to have dreams about the Blue Queen that may have something to do with the mist around Fennbirn that is suddenly acting like something out of Stephen King.

I didn't enjoy this quite as much as the last two, in part because the pacing felt uneven. In her acknowledgments Blake says that originally this series was meant to end after the second book and this felt a bit like Blake was working to get all the players back on the board for an upcoming finale.

Regardless, still a good read and the ending was everything (and by that I mean creepy as all get out).

I actually ended up buying the series because I enjoyed it so much. Let me just say this: if you liked the previous books, you probably won't be disappointed. The only drawback is that at times you can definitely tell that it is meant to be a bridging book to the upcoming finale.

I really enjoyed it. I can't wait to see what happens next.

A dark, character-centered fantasy book with the ultimate family battle. Definitely a page-turner!
