I've been a fan of Boots Riley's music for some time, and find him to be he is a very talented individual. With that said, I found this feature that he wrote and directed to be a solid piece of filmmaking. I'm still not sure where other folks found the sci-fi in this picture? Some of the ideas presented are more dystopian and created by human greed more than anything alien. Looking forward to Boots next project. You go Boots!!

I wanted to like this movie so bad. The cast is great, but the second half of this movie gets weird and stupid.

This is another one of "those' movies - ones that are amusing if you don't think too hard - but in retrospect seem pretty shallow.
Is it anything more than a second rate remake of Lindsay Anderson's "O Lucky Man!" with snippets of Robert Downey's "Putney Swope"? Both of these movies are a lot better than this one.

A scattershot of various social critiques held together by good characters and funny comedy moments. Starts weird, gets weirder and takes a bizarre dramatic turn at the end. A unique movie that's worth seeing for yourself. Won't be everyone's cup o' tea but I liked it

This might be the best movie of 2018. It's definitely going on my "Barking Mad Science Fiction Films" list.

I think what I loved about this movie was its ability to poke fun at itself, while also examining and critiquing the intersection of race, class struggle, and the nightmarish totality that is modern day capitalist production. It made the subject matter seem not as heavy handed as one might otherwise expect. Really enjoyed this movie. As an aside, while company "worry free" may seem absurd and unrealistic, its not. The work house and early textile factories of the gilded age, functioned on the same premises, and companies like wework/welive are bringing the ethos of "worry free" into the professional fields.

Started out pretty interesting with some likeable characters, but then got progressively more and more weird, goofy and unbelievable. Like the writers were on mind-altering substances. Just not for us, although it had some good points. We feel this had lots of potential but didn't deliver.

What a bad movie... I honestly think you would have to be stoned to enjoy any time spent in front of a screen with this movie on. There is a story in there somewhere about greed, unions, what share of profits should workers enjoy and so forth. But the levels this goes take it out of the realm of winking social commentary and into absurdity. Overall, the acting was pretty good. I expected a clever and funny office drone comedy based on the advertisements - perhaps something akin to Office Space for a more diverse audience. Instead, it was absurdist schlock with drawn out story telling that surely was designed to bore the viewer. As the director refers to it, "an absurdist dark comedy with magical realism and science fiction inspired by the world of telemarketing." Unfortunately, so often when marketing a movie, if it is called a dark comedy, what they really mean is, "We made a horrible drama, so we call it a dark comedy even though it really is not very funny." The director was a music producer for 20-something years and decided he wanted to make a movie... and the results look like a music producer thought producing music was the same as making a movie. So disappointed - I honestly thought this was going to be a great working-class office dark comedy with some creative social satire in it. Very disappointed.

Thanks to MoviePass and the library, I saw a lot of movies in 2018 and this is easily one of the worst. I'm glad I didn't spend a nickel to see it but I'll never get those two wasted hours back. The movie is somewhat engaging until about 45 minutes left, when it veers completely off-course to a meaningless conclusion. Furthermore, although it is promoted as a comedy, I cannot remember laughing even once, possibly because the jokes are cheap and depend mostly on foul language.

Any comparison to 2017's "Get Out" is completely unwarranted because Jordan Peele's movie is a masterpiece, winning the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. The "Sorry to Bother You" script should not have seen the light of day.

Sergio: Hey, Cash. How much longer I gotta wait for my money?

Cassius Green: God made this land for all of us. Greedy people like you want to hog it to yourself, and your family.

Sergio: Me and my family?

Cassius Green: Yeah.

Sergio: Cassius, I'm your fuckin' uncle.

There are plenty more as:

We are a part of something important. Changing the world. Before the sun explodes.

And the soundtrack is an integral part of the adventure. So turn on the subtitles or look up the lyrics of the songs. e.g. ending song OYAHYTT:

Hey, Hey
I'm Boots Riley,
they ain't merc'd me yet
Gon' get shit popping
like Percocet
Got pent up anger
that ain't surfaced yet
Two stepping like the boss
dispersed the check
Imagine this hymn
is a hand grenade
Asphalt sheet rock serenade
Jack and Coke
is the marinade
But we sober up quick
at the barricades
Joint in my mouth,
pass the fire
Everything out they
mouth is a pacifier
I'm not preaching,
ask the choir ...
