A compelling and hypnotic domestic noir novel in which a house swap becomes the eerie backdrop to a crumbling marriage and tantalizing affair, and the fatal consequences that unfold.

Be careful who you let in . . .

When Caroline and Francis receive an offer to house swap--from their city flat to a townhouse in a leafy, upscale London suburb--they jump at the chance for a week away from home, their daughter and the tensions that have pushed their marriage to the brink.

The house is stark, pared back and almost sinister in its emptiness: a blank canvas upon which they can try to start again, and rebuild what has been lost between them. But slowly, Caroline begins to uncover some signs--signs that connect to her life. The flowers in the bathroom and the music in the CD player might seem innocent to anyone else--but to her they are clues. It seems the person they have swapped homes with is someone who knows her, who knows the secrets she'd hoped to forget . . .

A rather interesting thriller; however, not as good as the publisher's reviewers comments. Not "fantastic' as Lee Child commented. I would not necessarily recommend it, despite the fact that I did enjoy the story.

Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Everything a psychological thriller should be - you’ll never think about swapping houses the same way again!

When Caroline agrees to a house swap, she has no idea what she is getting herself into. She and her husband Francis are in dire need of a vacation away to reconnect with each other, but who exactly have they let into their home while they are away???

Told in “Home” and “Away” sections, the reader learns details of Caroline’s life and marriage in both past and present. There are also chapters told from the chilling, unknown point of view of their house guest.

Pros: this book kept me on the edge of my seat...

Cons: perhaps the book went in circles a little too long to draw things out, but it was still quite good.

A very good psychological thriller...one of the best I have read lately!

I agree that the book was pretty slow in regards to development, but it was interesting enough to keep me wanting to read more.
I would have enjoyed a quicker pace, but the short chapters and switch between past and present definitely helped.
I liked that there was an added twist, making you reconsider what you thought you knew while reading the majority of the book. However, the married main characters were both extremely unlikable and seemed to get off very easily for their wrongdoings.

GREAT BOOK!

I really enjoyed how the author kept switching from the past to the present, she had me guessing the whole time.
