Rosie is a good dog and a faithful companion to her owner, George. She likes taking walks with George and looking at the clouds together, but the closest she comes to another dog is when she encounters her reflection in her empty dog bowl, and sometimes that makes Rosie feel lonely. One day George takes Rosie to the dog park, but the park is full of dogs that Rosie doesn't know, which makes her feel lonelier than ever. When big, loud Maurice and small, yippy Fifi bound over and want to play, Rosie's not sure how to respond. Is there a trick to making friends? And if so, can they all figure it out together?

A lovely story about making friends, even when you're not sure how. There's a poignancy when Rosie looks at her bowl and the clouds; she knows she's missing something, but she's not sure what. This book has similar themes and illustration style to Pip & Pup, and we probably only need one of these books. I'd vote for Rosie. It's style will appeal to fans of graphic fiction, and the story line bridges the full range of ages represented in K-2nd better than Pip and Pup.

A little odd, a little concerning, but very cute--this is pretty standard DiCamillo fare. What's interesting about this book, though, is the comic book panel style and chapter format that paces the story. It goes for a rather odd blend of mediums that isn't too jarring to read but also appeals to a different crowd, making it an odd but effective transitional book between picture books and graphic novels.
