This can be read as a stand alone from the series and I really liked it. There was some complexity in the plot which made it really interesting and I loved the strong female characters. I would recommend this one for sure.

'When You See Me' takes you on a harrowing ride and you can't let go.

There was much in the early part of the novel that was so specific and so familiar to me that I had to check the publication date and my book journal to make sure I hadn't read it. It think you can read this book as a stand alone but you'll regret not starting the series from the beginning.

I am not a "Rah, rah, you go girls" person, but this series is full of strong, intelligent women who forge their way after trauma and, as silly as it is, I'm really proud of one of the recurring characters. I won't tell you which in case you haven't finished the book.

It looks D.D. Warren has some changes coming to her life, too.

5 stars.

Familiar Gardner characters - Boston Homicide Detective D.D. Warren, abduction survivor Flora Dane and FBI Agent Kimberly Quincy - join together in an investigation into a set of human remains with a connection to Flora's infamous abductor.

For the most part, I absolutely loved this book! I loved the task force! They were the perfect group to untangle the series of murders (and lots of small-town secrets) in the Georgia hills. When I read #10 in the D.D. Warren series my fingers were crossed that I would see more of Flora in future books, and I'm happy to say my wish came true in When You See Me. My new wish is to see more of Bonita. 😊

Ms. Gardner definitely has a talent for drawing the reader in completely. I felt the bone-chilling fear, hope, anguish, and relief right along with the characters. Why, then, only 4 stars? Not because the conspiracy-powered plot eventually becomes one that's beyond believability. I was okay with that. However, I found the sex scene involving Flora to be distracting from the rest of the story, and a bit uncomfortable to read.

I love being able to read the 11th book in a series without having previously read any of the others and get the full enjoyment of the story. D.D. Warren is a Boston cop and friend of Flora who haw been held captive for over a year. Flora and her friend, Kevin, a true crime aficionado and hacker geek, are asked to accompany D.D. to a remote Georgia town in the Appalachians because a body has been found that could be a victim of Flora’s kidnapper. Like in many mysteries, there’s much more to the story including current human trafficking. Lots of gore and misery, but our heroes figure it all out.

Lisa Gardner knows how to write serious crime thrillers and delivers again with WHEN YOU SEE ME. A chance event when a hiker uncovers a human bone in a heavily forested. rural area leads to FBI supervisory Kimberly Quincy and Boston homicide detective D. D. Warren being reunited with former kidnapping survivor Flora Dane and her computer genius friend, Keith Edgar. Crime scene evidence connects the body of a young women, to Jacob Ness, Flora's kidnapper, long since dead. The four become part of task force that discovers more bodies and keeps everyone confused about what is going on. That's it as a set up, no more spoilers from me. The plot is ingenious, the character development is strong, and the highly complex crime involved isn't what you think until it unfolds in the latter part of the book. Of note, please see Lisa Gardner's acknowledgments at the end of the book which address how little she started this book with and how she got it to a great novel, and the people who helped her make it so. Enjoy

Detective D.D. Warren is assigned to as task force lead by FBI Special Agent, Kimberly Quincy. They are also working with Flora Dane, who survived more than a year being held prisoner by Jacob Ness. Keith Edgar, a true crime follower is also with D. D. on this case. There have been bodies discovered in a small town in Georgia. The team works hard to find out the secrets held by this town. This is a very good book from beginning to end.

Lisa Gardner pulls out all the stops in this her latest D.D. Warren thriller. Adventure, suspense, mystery ... this book had me holding my breath and only at the end was I able to let it out. Your heart will go out for poor little Bonita, and you'll fight for justice right along with D.D., Kimberly, and Flora. This is definitely what we fans have been waiting for. And we're not disappointed.

Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit! D.D., Flora, and Kimberly are back on the trail of the late Jacob Ness. Also along for the ride is computer nerd and Flora's wanna-be significant other, Keith. Don't worry -- this book is powered by women from beginning to end. In addition to the three women, the story is advanced by the perspective of a mystery girl who is mute. You will find out how she is connected to this compelling case soon enough. If you haven't met D.D., Flora, or Kimberly in a previous book -- bless your heart. You have some reading to do. Start with this one. It can stand on its own while pointing you back to some excellent reading.
