Heartbroken Natalie Harper inherits her mother's charming, cash-strapped bookshop and finds herself the carer for her ailing grandfather Andrew. She thinks it's best to move him to an assisted-living home to ensure his care, but to pay for it, Natalie will have to sell up the bookshop. However, Grandpa Andrew owns the building and refuses to budge. Moving into the studio apartment above the shop, Natalie hires a contractor, Peach Gallagher, to do some repairs. His young daughter becomes a regular at the shop, and she and Natalie begin reading together while Peach works. Slowly, Natalie's sorrow begins to dissipate as her life becomes an unexpected journey of new friendships. From unearthing hidden artifacts in the bookshop's walls, to learning the truth about her family, the bookshop is full of surprises. Can Natalie reveal her own heart's desire and turn a new page ...?

Add a CommentRomantic novel. It was predictable and easy to read. Good beach read.
A wonderful read to get you through these trying times!
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, with only a few days until a Christmas that will be like no other, I prefer to read books that are light-weight and uplifting. This one hit the nail on the head. No, not a serious read, just an easy, fun read.
Very sentimental, and completely predictable. Good for a beach read, covid read, or a day in bed with a head cold.
Depressing, depressing depressing....
I loved this romantic novel. Set in a falling down bookshop in San Francisco. The shop has history going way back and with supposed hidden treasures. After the death of her mother Blyth, the owner of the Lost and Found bookshop, Natalie has to take over the running of the book shop and looking after her aged grandfather.
A great story line underlies this novel, but it is not developed sufficiently compared to romance. Disappointing for me. Kristi & Abby Tabby
Natalie Harper is not only lost, she has lost so much, through death, through benevolent mismanagement, and, the most sad, through the progressing dementia of her beloved Grandy.
As she tries valiantly to save her family home and her family bookstore we see her depth in her vulnerability and grief. The tenderness she shows her grandfather is the same I hope might be given me in his situation.
Yes, 'The Lost and Found Bookshop' is a predictable, fast read, but I found the characters, especially Blythe and the precocious Dorothy, the memories and book references charming: "When she was very small, her mother used to tell her that books were alive in a special way. Between the covers, characters were living their lives, enacting their dramas, falling in and out of love, finding trouble, working out their problems. Even sitting closed on a shelf, a book had a life of its own. When someone opened the book, that was when the magic happened."
I regretted I didn't grab a pen and paper to write down all the books referenced. . . so I did, going page by page to find them, although, as is attributed to Blythe: "Sometimes you have to let the right book find you."
A delightful 4 Stars
Natalie doesn't really like her job - but the afternoon that she receives a promotion she experiences a great loss that changes the course of her life. Well written and a pleasant story that takes you into the life of a bookstore, with romance and a story of family. LIked the many references of ideas and statements from books that guided her mother's life and that also helped Natalie move on.
I really enjoyed this book...a good escape read.
