In this electrifying new thriller from three-time Edgar Award winner and New York Times bestseller T. Jefferson Parker, Private Investigator Roland Ford hunts for a missing teenager and uncovers a dark conspiracy in his most personal case yet. When hired by a beautiful and enigmatic woman to find her missing younger sister, private investigator Roland Ford immediately senses that the case is not what it seems. He is soon swept up in a web of lies and secrets as he searches for the teenager, and even his new client cannot be trusted. His investigation leads him to a secretive charter school, skinhead thugs, a cadre of American Nazis hidden in a desert compound, an arch-conservative celebrity evangelist?and finally, to the girl herself. The Last Good Guy is Ford's most challenging case to date, one that will leave him questioning everything he thought he knew about decency, honesty, and the battle between good and evil ... if it doesn't kill him first.

I had read and enjoyed most of T.J. Parker's prior novels and I looked forward to "The Last Good Guy." But I was greatly disappointed to find this book belongs in the new genre of "Fake Fiction."

Perhaps "T.J. Parker" is a pen-name for the frustrated screenwriter Adam Schiff or a MSNBC teleprompter writer. For whatever reason, it's loaded with progressive clichés- the "Bad Guys" are gun-toting white racists, neo-Nazis, Evangelical Christian pedophiles and Trump supporters with ties to meat-processing millionaires and nuclear power plants. Fortunately, "The Last Good Guy" and his so-called "Irregular" sidekicks (including the clichés of a mass-shooting survivor and a hard-working undocumented immigrant) are able to thwart this massive right wing conspiracy (killing a few of them along the way), stop their planned terrorist act, and save California as the paradise it is today.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has great tension, a lot of distraction, plenty of characters who are characters but not in a slapstick way. This was my first Parker T. Jefferson book. I liked the style of writing well enough to try a few of the books on his back list.
