A lovely novel with an intergenerational tale held together by one man.
After the Civil War, Clyde Batchelor, really a carpetbagger, marries a Virginia widow and takes her to the plantation he purchased in Louisiana.
Characters are well-drawn and the social milieu is presented well without any of the pure racism found in "Gone With The Wind." I'm not saying this wouldn't have bits that some might find offensive but it's nothing as blatant as GWTW.
