Add a CommentParental Guidance warranted for this Juvenile book given anti-Asian/racist language, specifically regarding cats deemed of Chinese origin such as Siamese (which I believe are originally from Siam now known as Thailand rather than China). Providing historical and/or cultural context for those references may provide teachable moments.
This set of cat poems is surprisingly addicting. No wonder people like TS Eliot.
Curious about the inspiration for the hit Broadway play "Cats"? Here it is!
Andrew Lloyd Webber had a brilliant decision to turn this cute book into a smash Broadway musical. As soon as I found out that this book was the inspiration, I had to read it! I didn't realize that it's a book of poetry and I normally wouldn't even bother but the poems are really cute as are the cute drawings of cats. The poems are cute and sweet and it was a quick, enjoyable read. If you've seen "Cats" even once, I dare you to read this without breaking into.song! On second thought it should be required! =)
