An album out of time, La Luz's "Weirdo Shine" is the marriage between two of the 1960's landmark sounds: Dick Dale surf rock and girl group pop. While the the result isn't really more than the sum of its sonic parts, it does cast a particularly minor-key charm. The vocals seem to emanate from the echoey shadows and the production as a whole is heavily indebted to its early to mid-60s musical antecedents. Very downcast stuff that will resonate more if you're in the right mood.
